Today was my children's first day of preschool! I got them dressed, they put on their shoes and backpacks and I led them (apprehensively) out the door. They greeted their teachers with half smiling faces and I said goodbye to them - all of us trying to maintain our brave, but quickly crumbling, facade. Hmmm, right about now I bet you're thinking "wasn't this post supposed to be about homeschooling?" Well, it is really. But, I thought I'd start with the twist first. Last year I home schooled my son, then three, with the Montessori Three to Six homeschooling program. I loved it so much (and so did my son) that I decided to continue on with it this year and teach my daughter as well. Now, here comes the twist - I AM TIRED! No, not just tired. I am beyond comprehension, the scene from G.I. Jane, can barely keep a thought in my brain exhausted! My husband's brutally long work hours, my ever expanding responsibilities here at home, and limited help have left me a little overwhelmed these days. So, my children will be attending a private preschool two days a week for a half day. The other three days they will be with me doing Montessori at home. I've tried to align the language arts and math lessons at school with my own lesson plans just to keep some consistency for my little ones. Next year my son will start kindergarten and we're still really not sure if we'll be homeschooling or sending him to our public elementary school. We will have to re-evaluate a lot of things next spring and start thinking seriously about the best plan for all of us. But for now...
Wishing all of you a happy start to your school year!
